Skinfood Skin Care

Recently, I'm crazy about Korean dramas.  I think these are one of the few things that once you get started, you just can't quit.  I believe my reason for loving them is that pre-Kdrama days, I had pretty much given up on up keeping my looks, being so busy with house chores and kids on a daily basis.  But seeing all those pretty faces and "fashionistas" (as Gumiho ~ from "My girlfriend is Gumiho" 내 여자친구는 구미호 calls it) makes me rethink about my 'then' current situation.  I think I'm still young, and it would add much enjoyment to my life if I can focus on something outside being a mother.  I do not work, as I like to think that I'm lucky enough to have a hubby that allows me to be a housewife (my true "career goal" since highschool), so I really have no excuse to buy new clothes all the time saying that they're for work.  But luckily I'm not into designer brands, so buying new clothes don't necessarily equates to spending a lot of money.  I find much more enjoyment in mixing and matching inexpensive styles and getting my desired result.  I am all for casual, chic style.  (I'm used to be just "casual", but Kdrama influenced me to look for "chic" these days as well.)

Not too long ago, I finished watching Jang Na Ra's latest drama: 동안미녀 (Babyfaced Beauty).  In the drama, she plays a 34 yr old woman who was often mistaken as a 25 yr old (in reality, Jang Na Ra is 30 yr old, so the difference is really 4 years.  Ever since watching this drama, I've been a bit obsessed with obtaining a 동안 ("Dongan" or simply put, 'Babyface').  I am not too big on North American cosmetics, because I think Asian products are more suitable for Asian skin.  So I've been buying a lot of Korean skincare products, because I think it's the best of both worlds... they have the latest technology like the Japanese, yet they also incorporate traditional herbal medicine in some of their products.  For my first trial, I chose the Skinfood brand, and I just received my first order last night.
My first Skinfood order.
This Ginseng mask (with honey), smells good enough to eat!
This Grapeseed Oil cream will take away wrinkles from the neck.
Peach BB cream that replaces my daily routine of putting on foundation and matte powder.
A whitening / brightening toner made from tomato extract.

And here's little Mackenzie pretending to wash her face.  She's really into looking pretty, as she loves to watch me put on make-up or wash my face.
Today, after dropping off Kaitlyn at Summer Camp, lil' Mackenzie refused to go home directly.  So, I took her to our favorite Korean supermarket H Mart Richmond Hill for groceries.  We happened to go on their last day of their promotion (where customers will earn a coupon for every Cdn$30 spent, and each coupon will entitle the customer to choose a gift from their gift table; the more coupons, the better the gift.).  I had no idea what sort of gifts I'm entitled to, but when I spent close to Cdn$90, I had 2 new coupons to use, plus 1 left over from last time's purchase.  With 3 coupons in hand, Mackenzie and I went to the gift table to choose our gift.  Her eyes went straight to the Snoopy car window shield.  (She calls Snoopy "ワンワン", as she got it mixed up with a Japanese kids' program character from いないいないばあっ!)  But to get the Snoopy car window shield, we need 4 coupons, not 3.  I told the staff at the supermarket that I only had to spend a few more dollars to qualify for another coupon, and she said she will give it to me if I buy a little bit more on the spot, as the promotion ends today.  So, I took Mackenzie back into the supermarket in search for one more item.  I just realized then that I had face wash on my imaginary shopping list, so I went to the shelf to choose the Korean face wash that I had used before.  Mackenzie wouldn't even let me choose a new fragrance, as she just grabbed one tube and started heading to the cash (luckily, she chose one that I used before; I wonder if she recognized the packaging?).  And once at the cash, Mackenzie told me that the tube of face wash was "hers", and that she's going to wash her face with it!  Gosh, I wonder if she'd seen me many times washing my face with things other than water and face towel, that she thinks little girls like her can also use it.
Mackenzie chose this from a variety of face wash on the shelf at Hmart.
I always say that my little one is more vain than her big sister, but I'm afraid big sister Kate is not too far behind.  Last night, when I was trying out my new arrivals (Ginseng mask, Tomato toner, Grapeseed Oil Neck cream), Kaitlyn said to me, "Mommy is always putting stuff on her face because she wants to look young!"  Then seconds later, she spotted the hydrating mist on the bathroom vanity, and she asked, "Can I use it?  Can I use it on my face too?  I love this!"  All females are alike, regardless of age!
Kaitlyn's favorite thing to put on her body after the shower.
